The Romanian Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (Romanian: Inspectoratul General pentru Situaţii de Urgenţă) is a structure of the Ministry of Interior and Administrative Reform created on December 15, 2004, by merging the Civil Defense Command (Comandamentul Protecţiei Civile) with the General Inspectorate of the Military Firefighters Corps (Inspectoratul General al Corpului Pompierilor Militari).They come into action in case of natural disasters(wildfires,floods,earth flows), car accidents(they have to take out the persons trapped in the destroyed cars), chemical accident, nuclear accident, earthquake. The civil protection structures of the Inspectorate have to take and dis activate unexploded bombs from the previous world wars found on the Romanian territory( in 2007 there were 2.236 such missions and were destroyed 870.841 ammunition elements). In 2007 the Inspectorate's officers actioned in 53.324 emergency situations(146 per day) and they saved 3.791 persons( 3.021 adults and 770 children). Every day 12.000 firefighters are prepared to act properly in order to solve all the emergency situation which could appear.
